Mesa Verde National Park in Colorado was created in 1906 to preserve the archeology of the and heritage of the Ancestral Pueblo people. There are over 600 cliff dwellings and over 4500 archaeological sites in the Park. The visitor center can be accessed without entering the park and has some great exhibits and information on how to explore the park. You do need to get tour passes to explore the Cliff Palace and Balcony House ruins. These are two ranger guided tours that can only be accessed with a pass. They both are challenging and you will want to see my next two videos to determine if you might be fit enough to take the challenge… Balcony House is definitely far more challenging than Cliff Palace but they both have their difficulties. Be aware that the drive from the main entrance to the cliff dwellings will take you about an hour. Not kidding… It's a timely drive. When we were in Mesa Verde the forest service was doing major maintenance on the Wetherill Mesa road and was to be closed to the public for the whole summer. We do want to go back to explore the other area. We covered the park from end to end. If you plan to visit make sure to get your park tour passes in advance on https://www.recreation.gov/ Also bring lots of water, good hiking shoes and sunscreen especially if you plan to visit during the summer months. There are many hikes that are easy to moderate with a few difficult trails to navigate.
