This was only the second time I’ve ever seen the East River covered with ice like this. Filmed at Gantry Plaza State Park in Long Island City, the temperature had dropped to just 4°F. Large sheets of ice formed across the river while a barge slowly pushed through the frozen surface. The wind was brutal, and my hands were nearly frozen while recording — but the scale of the scene was unforgettable. Moments like this are rare in New York City. No crowds. No people. Just wind, ice, and the Manhattan skyline standing quietly across the river.
