Today we'll discuss everyone's least favorite topic in the aquarium hobby: algae! Without a doubt, algae is the number one reason people quit this beautiful hobby. Algae has a rough reputation, and rightfully so. It's unsightly, appears to come out of nowhere, and exists in some capacity in every single tank. But fear not! Once you've got some knowledge, experience, and the right tools under your belt, algae isn't so intimidating. We're three weeks into the life of my UNS 60U, and the green hair algae and diatoms have arrived right on schedule. In today's video, I'll walk you through my step-by-step process for how I respond to that first wave of green algae and diatoms. I'll teach you how to clean your glassware with a bleach solution, I'll go over how to clean the aquarium glass, we'll scrub the plants, siphon algae/diatoms, and drain waste organics.
