Welcome to another episode of the SQE Journey Podcast, featuring Anna Asumadu — an LPC graduate who passed the SQE2 on her second attempt after transforming her approach to legal knowledge, study notes, and law updates. In this episode, Anna explains how using outdated LPC notes nearly harmed her preparation — and how switching to SQE-focused, updated notes + monthly revision lectures helped her stay current and finally pass. 📺 Watch the full episode FREE: 👉 https://smart.superexam.online/librar... ⭐ About Today’s Guest: Anna Asumadu Ethnicity: Black British SQE1 Status: Exempt (LPC graduate) SQE2 Status: Passed (2nd attempt, July 2025) Preparation After First Attempt: 6 months Academic Background: • LLB – University of Leicester • LPC – University of Law Anna represents a large group often forgotten in SQE discussions: LPC graduates transitioning to a constantly changing, skills-based SQE system. 🧠 Why This Episode Matters Many LPC graduates and resitters make the same mistake: They reuse outdated LPC or university notes for an exam designed in 2021 and updated every year. SQE2 demands: up-to-date legislation current case law regulator updates accurate procedural changes new probate rules litigation restrictions ethical decisions from SRA 📌 This is exactly why many strong candidates fail on their first attempt — not due to weak understanding, but outdated knowledge. 📌 1️⃣ Using LPC Notes Nearly Harmed Anna’s SQE2 Preparation Anna reveals: “The only other notes that I used was probably my LPC notes… but I was very careful because those were outdated.” She explains that LPC notes only helped her gain depth — but they could not be relied on for current SQE law. Instead, she needed: ✔ current case law ✔ procedural changes ✔ rules aligned with SQE assessments ✔ ethical updates ✔ litigation rules under SRA ✔ formatting and structure required by SQE examiners She stresses: “I would always go back to the academy notes to see any new laws that have come into place.” 🔄 2️⃣ SQE = Constantly Updating System (Even After You Start Studying) The SQE is still evolving. SQE launched in 2021 Major updates every year Case decisions impact exam questions Rules have changed Litigation authorisation restrictions have changed Even the tutors note: “There are constantly updates… even we update our materials frequently.” This is why the Academy runs: 📌 Monthly SQE Law Revision & Updates These sessions ensure: no outdated study exam-relevant changes are highlighted case law is explained in practical terms students know how updates affect drafting, advocacy, ethics, research, CMA, interview retakers don’t repeat mistakes based on outdated information foreign lawyers understand differences with their home jurisdiction 🏛 3️⃣ Example Update: Mazur v Charles Russell Speechlys LLP The tutors highlight the recent litigation case (Mazur & Ors v CRS LLP), which changed: Who can conduct litigation Who must hold a practising certificate The legal limits of CILEX / legal executives / paralegals What “reserved legal activities” legally require Anna confirms this is why she relied on: ✔ Academy SmartNotes ✔ Monthly revision lectures ✔ Law update recordings 📘 4️⃣ What Notes Should SQE2 Candidates Use? Anna summarises her approach: ✔ Primary Notes: Academy SQE Notes (Smart SQE Notes + lecture materials + exam frameworks) ✔ Secondary Only When Needed: LPC/University Notes (for deeper conceptual understanding ONLY) ❗ Never Use LPC Notes as the Main Source Because LPC notes: are written for a completely different exam contain procedural rules not tested in SQE may include outdated jurisdiction positions do not integrate SQE frameworks do not reflect current advocacy or drafting expectations do not mention new litigation restrictions or probate changes do not train how the SQE assesses application of law The key is application + current law, not academic theory. 🎥 Watch the FULL Podcast Episode (FREE) 🎧 Full video + extra content available on our SUPERexam platform: https://smart.superexam.online/librar...
