Goose Pond, which is in Greene County, opened in 2005 and encompasses 8,933 acres. About 12,000 wildlife watchers visit each year, and the property records about 3,500 annual hunting efforts (one hunter visit for one day). A new office and visitors center at Goose Pond Fish & Wildlife Area opened in the fall of 2016. The roughly 7,000-square-foot building offers a place for the public to meet property staff, learn about Goose Pond, bird-watch inside a wildlife viewing room, use the restroom and more. The building also houses a regional office for the DNR Division of Fish & Wildlife. The building is located on the highest point on the property, offering unique views. The windows are made from materials that reduce bird collisions. The building also uses sustainable and energy efficient materials and construction. Landscaping around the building will use native prairie grasses that blend with the property and are bird-friendly and low-maintenance.
