This is another piece I pulled out a few weeks ago. I'd never heard of it, but I thought it was interesting that it had a French title "Fanfarette Pour Trompette Seule" but from a German sounding composer, Heinz Schröter. Playing through, my first thought was "This sounds very Bitsch-esque." I dug into researching since I didn't want to record something without knowing anything about the composer or music... There's not a lot of information out there. But, here's what I found. Heinz Schröter was born in 1907 and lived until 1974. (This piece was published in 1963.) He was a pianist, and studied at the University of Music and Theatre Leipzig. Later in life he worked for Radio Frankfurt, possibly composing new music for radio in post-war Germany. Almost all of his works are for Piano, Violin or both. This apprears to be his only work for Trumpet, the only one titled in French, and finally, the only one published by Alphonse Leduc. Curious indeed. Lastly, he was a memeber of the Cologne Trio, and after a tour he stayed in Iran until his death. WorldCAT was quite helpful in finding most of this information, but Wikidata was able to lead me, interestingly enough to a Japenese Wikipedia page. I wish I knew more about the piece itself, and why it sounds so French. If anyone has more information, please let me know!
