The laouto of the mainland and islands is the accompaniment instrument of Greece. It is tuned AGDC (high to low) and is double stringed and fretted, traditionally, with fishing line. Styles and variations of tuning vary from region to region but the traditional “zygia” was not complete without the laouto. This instrument was made by master luthier Giannis Paximadakis.
