Fate/Zero is an anime that explores ideals and the philosophy behind them; most notably, their restrictions, downfalls, and tragedy. Through the fighters Saber, Rider, Kiritsugu and others, the anime records a deep and complex tale about what it means to lead and to follow, and how many of our common beliefs on the subject are wrong... Summoning up some of his usual nihilism and dark themes, Gen Urobuchi crafted something in Fate/Zero on level with some of his other amazing works like Psycho-Pass and Madoka Magica. The unique premise of the Holy Grail War, centering on those who wish to enforce their will through a miracle, offers the perfect backdrop to explore the cyclical nature of kingship. Many believe someone like Saber, the reincarnation of King Arthur, full of honor and glory would be the ideal leader.
