Richardson Highway, Alaska We drove the Richardson Highway rather than taking the Tok cutoff because the highway is a scenic bypass. If we're going to be driving for a bit, we'd rather it be pretty. In the video, Sharon shows us that the Richardson Highway is not very busy. At this point, we'd been in Alaska for about a month and a half, but it was mid August and fall. The snow was lower on the mountains, and the colors had begun to change. One of our stops for the night was at a glacier. It wasn't very far away, and that may have been why we were so much colder that night than on some previous nights. It was wonderful to see a glacier as close as we were. We do want to remind you once again that the pictures don't do the scenery justice. There is no way they can show you how vast, expansive, wonderful Alaska is. We did return to Shaw Pond where Sharon caught trout. While we were there, a helicopter landed with a piece of equipment. We watched because we don't usually have front row seats of equipment being hauled by a helicopter. While on this leg of the trip, we did take the short section of the Alcan we missed by going Top of the World Highway when we first entered Alaska.
