Ferdinand III (1608–1657) - Deus, tuorum militum (1649) Viatoribus is proud to present our new videos! We have selected excerpts from three of our favorite pieces from our Austrian program "ad Austriam", displaying the diversity of the ensemble. The first one out could be argued to be the ultimate Habsburg piece of music, as it was written by emperor Ferdinand III himself! Ferdinand III was the first composing emperor of the Habsburg empire, and "Deus tuorum militum" ("God, your soldiers") was written a year after the end of the Thirty Years War, in which Ferdninand III, who had himself acted as military commander early in the war, saw his army going through several defeats and losses. The text of "Deus, turoum militum" asks for absolution of the sins of a martyred saint. The piece was originally scored for cornetto, dulcian, soprano and bass, but we find the piece to work quite well in our adaptation too! Follow us as we continue releasing the other videos to you over the coming weeks! www.viatoribus.net www.facebook.com/viatoribusensemble www.instagram.com/viatoribus.ensemble Viatoribus: Mirjam Striegel - soprano Katharina Haun - cornetto Phillip Boyle - baroque trombone John Martling - theorbo Alexander Paine - organ Omri Abram - sound engineer Melissa Torres - camera Matthias Aberer - video editor Filmed in the medieval Peterskirche in Blansingen, DE.
