ALBANY, N.Y. — Residents and local officials are expressing frustration and safety concerns over the stalled construction of the "Air Albany" luxury apartment building at 1211 Western Ave, near the University at Albany. The project, initially approved in 2017 as dorm-style apartments for students, has been abandoned for nearly three years, according to Albany Common Council member Tom Hoey. "I don’t think its safe," Hoey told CBS6. "As a parent, I would not let my child stay here. The website for "Air Albany" says the six-story luxury building is "coming in spring 2025." CBS6 confirmed construction permit for the estimated $33 million project expired last month. "The entire association, we are totally disgusted with this thing here," said Vincent Rigosu, President of the Eagle Hill Neighborhood Association. "It's the talk of the town," said Frank Commisso, Albany County Legislator for District 11. People who travel on Western Avenue on a daily basis when they see me, they say it's a joke, it's a joke, what's happening Frank? And we have no answers. #albany #albanyny
