Best file formats when exporting from one program to another one to further edit a 2D draft and/or 3D model(s). There are 5 of them; stop wasting your time with the many other ones! Hoping this will help someone. I spent at least 24 hours total time wasted not knowing this! This is sure to help someone out. Also, a quick note about .igs file format: you're going to need to export using the option 'IronCAD' when you see your export settings/options during export. This seems to be the only one that worked for me out of about 50 options when trying to see it in ViaCAD Pro version 10. But using this setting/option also worked in Rhino3D and FormZ Pro. And remember your .mtl file along with your .obj files because every Wavefront .obj file comes with a material file with the extension .mtl so do not forget to have that in the same directory/folder (both .obj & .mtl go together). NOTE 1: .dwg is my favorite file format and .step/.stp is 2nd best NOTE 2: .dwg=2D drafts, 3D lines/curves/wireframes, solids, surfaces, and is capable of displaying mesh/subdivision/tessellation/polygon type of 3D modeling along with editing/making it. The catch is that is doesn't seem to be able to save or make complex or large meshes. So, only simple mesh creation with it, but still can display large/complex mesh models without the ability to edit them. Which is the most capability out of any CAD/3D model format I've ever seen. And it's popularity helps it even more. But even this does not always work, so try 2, 3, 4, or even all 5 formats when exporting your final 3D model(s) and/or 2D drafts. As some CAD software either does not support certain ones for import or does falsely claim to. .stp seems to work best with Rhino3D and .dwg seems to be best for ViaCAD Pro. NOTE 3: FBX or .fbx file format for 3D models is another one that should be considered after all others, since certain game engines or other software (usually character animation) might only use this popular 3D model file format for imports, unfortunately. Not my 1st pick, but a must if/when the software you're trying to use ONLY uses this file type due to no PBR texture support (FBX is an old file format). FBX stands for Film Box and is a type of file format that includes materials/textures and animation, not just the 3D model itself. Also supports, and is geared for, character animation and 3D character modeling (mesh/SubD). FBX is owned/updated/made by AutoDesk. More info about FBX here: https://www.threekit.com/blog/when-sh... NOTE 4: glTF or .gltf or .glb is a newer file format (as of 2020; made in 2016 or so) and is the best file format to use for a website displaying 3D models. However, as of now (in 2020), it's not good enough and should be avoided, unless no other option is available and you're forced to use it. But, that's what it's for, websites, as it has a smaller file size and is optimized for the internet. Hoping it gets better soon. FBX = game engines and character modeling/animation software glTF= websites
