In this video, we are resetting the Tamiya Novarossi CX-12 # 41042 back to the factory settings. As this engine was purchased second hand it always pays to take the time to return the needle valves back to the stock setup as you are never quite sure where the previous owner has them set. I was lucky enough to have some help from a top bloke that is a long-time member of the Tamiyaclub who sent me a scan of the original documents that came with the engine. Cheers mate your help is very much appreciated. The stock setting for this engine are as follows, The main needle, screw-in gently until it stops and then reopen this valve 7.5 turns. The base screw needs to be set flush with the carb housing. And finally, the low-speed needle needs to be screwed out until it is flush with the throttle linkage housing and then screwed back in 2 full turns. The idle screw also needs to be adjusted to have about 0.5mm opening at zero trim. These stock settings will provide a very rich setting and may prove difficult to get it started and have a stable idle. As this engine was used I will get it running as close to these settings as possible and then slowly fine-tune the engine to achieve the best tune that I can. It is important to slowly tune these engines by turning the needle settings in very small increments only around 1/2 or 1/4 of a turn each time. It is also best to run these models on the ground and under load to get a gauge of how your changes are affecting the response of the engine also while keeping an eye on the engine temp. As you will see in this video I did have a bit of trouble getting this motor go hold a stable idle, it did require a bit of leaning to get it to run. This is usually very common with nitro glow engines and especially with used units. Please note that these settings are for this CX-12 engine only, not all glow engines have the same settings and you will need to refer to your own manual that suits your own glow engine In the next video, I will be heading to the track to further tune this engine to achieve maximum performance. As always thanks for watching and be sure to leave any comments below. Hopefully, you have found some of this information useful. Cheers KO RC
