Radha and Krishna - The Divine Love Radha, also called Radhika, is a Hindu goddess and the chief consort of Krishna - the eighth Incarnation of Vishnu. She is known for her love, tenderness, compassion, and devotion for Krishna. In scriptures, Radha is mentioned as the avatar of Lakshmi and also as the Mūlaprakriti, meaning the Supreme goddess, who is the feminine counterpart and internal potency of Krishna. Radha accompanies Krishna in all his incarnations. Radha was five years elder to Krishna. Radha was the youngest daughter of Vrishnabanu, a Yadava ruler of Barsana and his wife Kriti Devi. Her birthplace is Raval which is a small town near Gokul in Uttar pradesh, but is often said to be Barsana where she grew up. She lost her mother when she was just 6 years old and was brought up by her maternal grandmother. When her mother was alive, she had made a promise to visit the Mahadeva temple in Gokula, where Shiva was worshiped but was unable to fulfill her vow due to her death. It was as a part of fulfilling this vow that Radhe had come with her maternal grandmother to Gokula. Based on some sources the first meeting of Radha and Krishna goes like this. One day in Gokula, Krishna heard two female voices coming towards him. Two girls came that way and they noticed Krishna. The younger girl Lalitha was Krishna’s playmate. The older girl was about 12 years of age. He did not know who she was but was just drawn to her.
