Episode 21 of my Gilgit Baltistan motorcycle journey begins from Skardu city towards the magical Katpana Cold Desert. Early morning views of Katpana were unreal, but the ride quickly turned into a nightmare when my fully loaded motorcycle got badly stuck in deep desert sand. It took a long time and all my strength to pull the bike out — a moment that tested both patience and courage. From Katpana, I rode towards Bashu Valley. Instead of hiring a jeep, I decided to enter the valley on my motorcycle. The steep rocky road and heavy luggage made the ride extremely difficult, and I had to turn back midway — realizing that not every beautiful road is meant for every bike. After returning, I continued my journey towards Jaglot and Skardu Road, interacting with locals, hotel owners, and fruit sellers along the way. Finally, I reached the Karakoram Highway and turned left towards Astore Valley. The Astore road was narrow, rough, and crowded with heavy trucks. Riding till night in cold mountain air was exhausting, but I safely reached Astore city around 8 PM.
