Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer. Today on our 2020 Dodge Durango, we're gonna be showing you how to install the etrailer.com trailer hitch receiver. Before we get into that though, why don't we just take a minute, check this out and make sure it's gonna work for you. Putting a hitch on a Durango just makes sense. Real capable SUVs, people are out doing a lot of different things with them. Pulling their trailers and campers and stuff like that around. Using accessories, bike racks, cargo carriers, things of that nature so, it looks right at place back here. You know the Durangos just accessorized nicely. Whatever you kind of put on them, it don't look bad by any means and I feel like, that holds true with this trailer hitch as well. Even though it is visible, it drops down below the bumper, don't look out of place. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that it has a matte black finish and kinda looks factory, and blends in and matches our back bumper real well. Which kind of brings you to my next point. Before you even think about getting a hitch or picking one out, this panel here removes. You can unscrew it and pop it down and there may be a factory hitch behind that. If you didn't know that, definitely check it because I've seen it before where people just don't know, and pick up a hitch and then realize I already have one back here. And if you don't like the visible look. Let's say if you don't use the hitch all that often, or you just don't wanna see it at all, there's actually several hitches available that do fit behind the fascia here and sit behind the panel. That way when you're ready to use it, pop the panel down, you got access to it. When you're done, you can flip it back up. With this being a class three hitch, it is gonna have a two inch by two inch receiver tube opening. Super common size, a lot of different things are gonna work with it. It's gonna use the standard five eighths pin and clip. Pin and clip doesn't come included with the hitch. If you need one, not a big deal, you can grab it here etrailer, or a lot of times if you buy a new accessory, it'll come with one, so pay attention to that. Safety chain openings are a little on the small side but they're still gonna be large enough to allow us to use just about any size hook that our trailer might have on it. This does have some really good weight capacities. Maximum gross tongue weight's gonna be 600 pounds. That's the amount of weight pushing down on it. So that's more than enough for just about any size bike rack or cargo carrier. Just to kind give you an example. Maximum gross trailer weight rating is gonna be 6,000 pounds or the amount of weight pulling on the hitch. That's the weight of your trailer plus anything that you might have on it. This setup can be used with a weight distribution system which is a separate component. What happens whenever you use that, it's going to keep your Dodge and your trailer level whenever you're pulling it down the road. It's something pretty popular on bigger campers and things like that so, might wanna check that out if that's what you're planning on doing. But the capacities are gonna increase if you use that. Tongue weight will go up to 750 and trailer weight will go up to 7,500. With all that in mind though, I do always like to suggest, never a bad idea just to grab your SUV's owners manual. That way you can check in there and make sure that your Durango can handle that much weight safely. I can grab a couple of measurements. These are gonna help you figure out what type of accessories will work best. So we'll go from the ground to the top inside edge of the receiver tube opening and that's gonna be about 14 and a half inches. So if you plan on pulling a trailer you know something lighter you could probably use a straight shank. Wouldn't hurt though to probably get something with the rise in it, maybe an inch or two, works for a lot of people. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the rear bumper that looks like it's gonna be about four inches and you can use that to help figure out about any folding type accessories you might have and you sort it up right without hitting the back and that's pretty good clearance so chances are really good you won't run into any issues there. Other than that, good all around hitch. It's gonna work with a little bit of everything you know because of the weight capacities, the clearance
