Worked with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and marched in Selma (1965). Led Operation Breadbasket for SCLC. Was at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis when King was assassinated (April 4, 1968). Founded Operation PUSH (1971) and National Rainbow Coalition (1984). Merged into Rainbow PUSH Coalition (1996). Died Feb. 17, 2026 (84).
