I don’t mean to meander But as far back as I can gander Throughout my family tree A pattern emerges that’s plain to see We would never be considered advancement advocators My great, great gramps was always angry at lamps, My great grandpa cursed at radiators, My granddad hated electricity, my uncle was scared of elevators, my sister will freeze if you mention encryption keys, my aunt loathes digital animators, It may seem extreme eccentricity, But I’m from a long, long line of technology haters! I’m not usually scared or yellow, I’m just an old fashioned fellow, I keep gadgets on the mellow, I don’t need a toaster that can count bread, slice, or converse and say (hello!) I’m not afraid of AI, I’m just a bit shy, I’ll tell you why… When I was just a child of three my momma told me About a movie she saw replayed on TV Fortunately, the picture was black and white Which helped mitigate some of the fright But still my poor momma stayed up all night And explained it in the morning light It’s about a computer named HAL with a synthetic brain, Who seems an affable pal, But soon goes insane HAL gets violent and cuts Frank’s air while he’s space leaping, Then HAL kills most of the crew while they’re sleeping. As I grew older I realized this was no isolated instance And my momma was making me over To be the first line of resistance By way of preparation, She supplied indoctrination, And supportive exaggeration, To build my fear for this abomination I’m not usually scared or yellow, I’m just an old fashioned fellow, I keep advancement on the mellow, I don’t need a toaster that can count bread, slice, or converse and say (hello!) I’m not afraid of AI, I’m just a bit shy…. Oh! Life used to be so simple, Life was like a dream, people used to be real, But now in less than 2 seconds, anybody can make a meme! Sure there’s pros and cons To every new development, Yes, it’s inelegant, It can edit family photos and remove who’s irrelevant. Your Facebook posts about the zoo can have extra elephants. Yeah, AI will probably kill you, But not in the way you’ve been told It will likely just keep you on hold Waiting for customer service until you’re just too old I’m not scared or yellow, And I’m an old fashioned fellow, I keep tech on the mellow, But maybe it won’t hurt if my toaster says (hello!) I’m not afraid of AI, I’m gonna give it a try, I’ll tell you why… Sure, I prefer everything real, That’s just how I feel, But if you’re going anywhere, Or buying anything, AI is right there with you, Because data is king It shouldn’t make you sad, It can be used for good or bad.
