In 1964 his band won a competition to become the house band at the Pit Club, located at the Bronco Bowl in Oak Cliff, Texas. The Floyd Dakil Combo. They had a national hit in 1964 (Local chart no.18 in Pennsylvania) with "Dance Franny Dance". The band's name changed several times with variations such at The Floyd Dakil Four and Floyd Dakil & The Pitmen. The band broke up in 1967 having been unable to re-create the success of "Dance Franny Dance".on Jetstar. The record was picked up for national distribution on the Guyden label. Floyd Dakil went on to record three 45s on the Earth label as the Floyd Dakil Four. In 1969 Floyd joined Louis Prima's band as guitarist, and remained with him for several years.
