Nest Box Observation 2020, Japanese Tit, second nesting period, a full 41-day record from nest building, laying eggs, parenting, to fledging. After the Japanese Tits from the first period successfully fledged 10 chicks, they immediately started building a nest in the same nest box again. However, perhaps they didn't finish the nest in time, or they suddenly laid an egg with absolutely no nest material... I probably will never hear the "coton" sound of an egg being laid in an empty nest box again! Japanese Tits usually lay one egg per day, but this time, it was an irregular laying pattern, with the second egg laid 5 days after the first, and then one egg per day after that. The hatching timings were also off, with a time lag of 70 hours between the first and last egg. For this reason, although it took 19 days until fledging, the chick born last may not have grown enough. As shown at the end of the video, only one chick fledged a little late.
