CoastWISE (Coastal Wealth, Integrity, and Service Evaluation): Total Economic Valuation of Jerry Camp,” uses underwater transects, drone surveys, and community interviews to identify, quantify, and value the ecosystem services that sustain livelihoods and well-being in South Caicos, Turks and Caicos Islands. As the island transitions from a marine-based provisioning economy toward a tourism economy, the team integrates “air-to-ground” ecological data (landscape/seascape to patch scale) with stakeholder perspectives to estimate the benefits coastal habitats provide, and to translate those benefits into decision-relevant values. This is a continued effort in comprehensively assessing ecosystem services of South Caicos that combines ecological surveys with social valuation, providing actionable evidence to support sustainable development, policy-making, and coastal resource management in the Turks and Caicos Islands and across Small-Island Developing States.
