A major road accident occurred in the Gumma Ghati of Rayagada district today, where a wood-laden truck overturned and plunged nearly 20 feet down the gorge. The driver and the helper have sustained critical injuries in this mishap. The truck was transporting a load of timber from Borigumma in the Koraput district towards Jekepur in Rayagada. While navigating the steep turns of the Gumma Ghati, the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to fall off the road into the 20-foot gorge. Local residents immediately rushed to the spot and rescued the trapped driver and helper. Both have been admitted to the Rayagada District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) for urgent medical treatment.
