Hardly anyone bought this GPU back in 2003

ATi suddenly rose to the top of the GPU throne starting in late 2002, and by 2003 they were continuing to enjoy their newfound success. The Radeon 9800XT was ATis way of basically rubbing salt into the wounds of an already struggling and hurting Nvidia. So if the 9800XT was so good, why did no one buy it? Was this a bit of a gimmicky GPU or did ATi really have something special in store for consumers?
