NovoViz: Making single-photon technology more accessible to everyday users

Meet NovoViz's CEO Andrada Muntean and CTO Andrei Ardelean. The startup enables the development of cost-effective Single-Photon Avalanche Diode (SPAD) cameras, making single-photon technology more accessible and ultimately advancing research in quantum imaging and machine vision. NovoViz develops novel sensor chips enabling the next generation of sensors and cameras, offering much higher frame rates with less energy and lower system costs. The EPFL spin-off was financed with CHF 150,000 by Venture Kick, winning the third stage of the program. Existing single-photon cameras are specialized pieces of equipment with high technological demands, making them inaccessible and costly for everyday users. Such cameras require expensive Single-Photon Avalanche Diode (SPAD) sensors and are mostly used in complex and experimental setups with high overall costs, limiting their adoption in fields such as quantum imaging and machine vision. NovoViz develops cost-effective single-photon computational engines, leveraging two patents and a decade of research. The startup enables the development of cost-effective SPAD cameras, offering much higher frame rates and minimal output bandwidth compared to existing cameras - all at single-photon resolution.
