Myringotomy is the creation of an incision in the ear drum to allow drainage of fluid buildup in the middle ear. It is often done to correct hearing loss or to drain infected pus. A tympanostomy tube is placed to keep the myringotomy open for a few months to guarantee that drainage continues until the eustachian tube starts draining the middle ear again. Dr. Tim A. Fife, Ear|Nose|Throat with Sacramento ENT (http://www.sacent.com) performs the procedure. Part 1: Dr. Fife explains the cause of the hearing loss and performs the myringotomy. Part 2: Dr. Fife attempts placement of the tympanostomy tube and Shelley has a vasovagal reaction. Part 3: Dr. Fife extends the incision of the original myringotomy and successfully places the tympanostomy tube after Shelley has another vasovagal reaction.
