"Silent Night" was composed in 1818 by Joseph Mohr (lyrics) and Franz Gruber (music). 200 years later we invite you to dance with us wherever you are, on this peaceful carol. This tutorial video is presented by choreographer Helena Froehlich and CreationDance. We start with the first verse one line at the time. Next, we dance through the whole first verse. Then we do the whole song with three verses: each dancer does the same individual movements as in the first verse, but we evolve the patterns created by the group during the three verses. Please choose in which language you would like to sing it or you can do an instrumental version. Here we choose to sing the first verse repeated three times in: German, French and English in commemoration of the Christmas Truce in 1914, where it is said that on Christmas Eve a German officer, Walter Kirchhoff, a tenor with the Berlin Opera, came out of the trenches and started to sing Silent Night in German and then in English, his voice crisp and clear carried far in the cold night of Christmas eve . . . The shooting stopped, gradually troops from all sides crawled out and into No Man’s Land and joined in singing Christmas carols in German, French and English. CreationDance: Helena Froehlich (choreography), Nicole Beaudoin, Kirsten Hede-Brierley, Edward Keazirian, Lynn Menegon, Lily Shu, Samantha Shu. Musicians: Paul Antonucci (piano for the tutorial), then Nancy Hair (cello), Helena Froehlich (voice), Stephanie Rogers (piano)
