Trying to decide where to move in the UK? Here’s what I've learned about where to live in England and why you should think twice before picking your perfect spot. If you're relocating to England from the USA this is my advice as an American living in the UK. 6 MONTH GUIDE TO LIVING IN THE UK: https://www.hipoverfifty.com/product/... SUBSCRIBE: / @hipoverfifty CHECK YOUR GP BY POST CODE: https://tinyurl.com/4dkadpe2 1. LOCATION - Desirable = commuting distance to work and nearby amenities like coast. southeast, southwest pricier - 2 hour commute to London, 1 hour to cities, 2. SOUTH FACING GARDEN There’s a reason why everyone on location location or a place in the country is looking for a south facing garden. We get fewer daylight hours in the winter and sun helps. I’d take it one step further. No living area should face north3 . PUBLIC TRANSPORT Living here without a car is possible but consider what your public transport options are. 4. IS IT WALKABLE? Frome for ex, GP, library, town, train station within a 20 minute walk. Walkable culture = town or city. Center or edges. Living in a village or rural area requires a car and frequent trips to the shops. 5. PARKING If you plan to drive, for goodness sakes, find a place with a dedicated place to park. “Off street parking is desirable “on” street isn’t. North not good 6. GP PRACTICE Speaking of villages, consider carefully your access to a good local GP practice and hospital. Use this link to check GP care by post code. https://tinyurl.com/4dkadpe2 7. AIRPORT PROXIMITY Consider distance to local airport. Some regional airports serve Europe well but for US trans-atlantic its Gatwick, Heathrow Manchester (Edinburgh) 8. WEATHER - The southeast is drier and sunnier than the west ABOUT: I’m Tessa, British born but UK/US dual citizen.
