Today I’m kicking off #dephemerember 2025 with something a little different, a heartfelt unboxing to mark the start of this year’s marathon of creativity. #dephemerember is hosted again by the wonderful Barbara from @49dragonflies and Luise @luiseheinzl, and as always, we’ll be creating four days a week throughout December, turning prompts into beautiful junk journal ephemera. To celebrate the beginning of this year’s challenge, Jem from @jemscreativespace and I decided to buddy up and swap 50 junk journal pieces … plus a few snacks to keep us going for the month ahead. And honestly? I am blown away. Every single item she sent feels thoughtful, generous, and absolutely gorgeous. There’s something about receiving handmade pieces from another crafter that feels like opening a little window into their world, their colours, textures, stories, and the way their hands move through paper. As a psychotherapist and a crafter, I’m always struck by how these creative exchanges hold something deeply human: kindness, connection, and that feeling of being part of a wider community. Jem’s package reminded me of how creativity travels, from one pair of hands to another, and how much beauty can be held in even the smallest scrap. In today’s video, I’ll unpack everything she sent me (yes… all 50+ pieces!), share my first impressions, and talk about how I might use them during #dephemerember.
