Yes, I know the sound is still not quite there! The AKD 4001 is one of few amateur radios offered for the less than usual 4M UK allocations & has been around since about 1992. I believe this particular radio is probably around this date. Later on, the same radio was produced by Garex, and is currently built to order by Spectrum Communications with an improved spec. The radio offers all 20 available channels at 12.5Khz spacing. The power output is switchable between 5W & 25W. I bought this a couple of years ago & using it with a Sirio base station aerial have so far had contacts up to around 65 miles on it. I like 4M as there aren't that many fellow radio amateurs on it, and many of those who are, like myself, are interested in a more technical side of radio I've found.
