Are bananas too cheap?

Bananas are a cheap staple for most households. Shoppers buy them week in and week out, but unlike other tropical fruit and veg like avocado, we don't tend to question how sustainable or ethical they are. In reality, it's an industry fraught with poor treatment of workers, one that relies on huge amounts of pesticides which destroy ecosystems, alongside other environmental, social & corporate issues. We visited our banana suppliers in the Caribbean to find out how the fruit are grown, what challenges farmers are facing, and how paying as little as 10% more can make a huge difference to the communities growing them.
