The 14th Meeting of the Task Force on Monitoring convened members of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration monitoring community to share updates on the implementation of the Target 2 Road Map and ongoing efforts to strengthen ecosystem restoration monitoring systems. The meeting brought together 84 representatives from FAO, CBD, regional technical and scientific cooperation support centres, research institutions, NGOs, and international organizations involved in restoration monitoring and reporting. The session focused on progress made in supporting countries with ecosystem restoration monitoring and reporting, particularly through regional workshops, help desks, and technical cooperation with subregional centres. Updates were provided on activities conducted by the ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity (ACB), the Humboldt Institute, and the Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD) to support countries in preparing for the 7th National Reports to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). The meeting also presented updates on the Framework for Ecosystem Restoration Monitoring (FERM) platform, including developments related to interoperability, the use of application programming interfaces (API) for integrating national databases, and the connection between FERM and the CBD Online Reporting Tool. Additional updates were shared by the Freshwater Working Group and the Indigenous Peoples’ Restoration Monitoring Working Group, highlighting ongoing efforts to strengthen monitoring guidance, capacity development, and inclusive monitoring approaches under Target 2 of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KM-GBF).
