Defibrillator use: Tutorial Tutorial on how to use a defibrillator #simulation #sim #medicaleducation #defibrillator Dharura and the Nanyuki Sim Team from Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital in Laikipia County, Kenya are proud to present this video series to support simulation facilitators. How to use these videos: The videos make use of the SimZones Framework (Roussin CJ, Weinstock P. SimZones: An Organizational Innovation for Simulation Programs and Centers. Acad Med. 2017 Aug;92(8):1114-1120. doi: 10.1097/ACM.0000000000001746. PMID: 28562455.) to decide which type of simulation should be used for different groups of learners. SimZone 0 simulations are for basic skills and should be used as part of a four-stage approach in skills teaching as follows: Stage 1: demonstration in real time Stage 2: slow demonstration of each step with explanations about why actions are taken. Stage 3: the participants tell the facilitator what to do to complete the skill Stage 3: the participants demonstrate the skill These videos can be used for stage 1 and stage 2 of this approach. After showing them, you as the facilitator should ask the group to instruct you on how to perform the skill while they remain "hands-off" then you they should demonstrate the skill as many times as necessary. SimZone 1 simulations are basic ABCDE assessments of simple cases. For these, the videos can be used as a demonstration of how the participants are expected to behave and act during a simulation. These can be used for a new topic (e.g. sepsis) or for those who have never taken part in a simulation before. Tutorial videos can be used to supplement skills stations when a specific piece of equipment or concept requires a deeper explanation.
