This was a quick demonstration. Please listen to the video first if you would like to guess by sound which speaker is which. This was recorded in a 12'x12' room, thus I opted to record in MONO playing only the Left channel. It was recorded using a Samsung Galaxy S8 placed in the middle back quarter of the room. All speakers were placed in the same spot in the room. The JMR Duet was aimed across the room towards the microphone (giving it an advantage by focusing its acoustic energy towards the mic) - all of the other speakers are omnidirectional so no positioning was required. The first speaker starting from 0:07 is an early model Ohm Walsh F (came with Ohm Walsh A badged cabinets) with extensive damage to the titanium treble section of the driver. I suspect during its rebuild (some 15 years ago) not enough dampening and support material was placed behind those respective portions of the drivers. The upper mids and highs are more pronounced compared to the other drivers. It can be very harsh, bright and thin. Definitely unlistenable at times as it rings often. The second speaker starting from 1:12 is a later model Ohm Walsh F (with the updated spider supports). It was rebuilt a few years ago by a reputable source. I imagine this is about as good as it gets with these vintage drivers using the old, original worn out materials. You will notice immediately a much softer overall presentaton. You can feel that the speaker is better dampened and more listenable with no ringing (a bit 'darker'). The third speaker starting at 2:18, as you may have guessed, is the TLS-1 Hybrid. Considering how this was recorded I hope it is easy to tell. The in-room impression is incomparable really as this speaker easily outclasses the rest. Listen to the dynamics of the drum - how each strike sounds unique and has very different drive. I could go on and on but the point of this video is to use and trust your ears to analyze what I've presented. I've dreamed of hearing these speakers ever since HHR was founded - amazingly, every time I listen to them, they crush even what I dreamed was possible. (I may be a bit passionate about them.. :) ..) The fourth speaker starting at 3:26 is the JMR Duet. I included this speaker to give a basis for comparison to the rest. It is a more traditionally designed speaker that could perhaps give a useable frame of reference. I hope you enjoy! Coming up - I will soon attempt to have a single Ohm Walsh A driver restored.
