This is the story of Mehmet and Alvin - One man, a squirrel, one extraordinary bond! It started with the rescue of a tiny baby squirrel who was not expected to survive due to a leg injury. After much TLC, including nursing the squirrel back to health with home hydrotherapy, Mehmet and this squirrel, whom he called Alvin, have developed an extraordinary bond. Once Alvin was fit and well, Mehmet tried several times to return him to the wild, in the place where he was found, but Alvin would not let Mehmet leave. Since then, they have become inseparable and this relationship is one of interdependence. Mehmet needs Alvin as much as the squirrel needs him; he too, has played an important role in Mehmet’s own mental health and well-being through some tough times. Alvin is a central part of Mehmet’s daily routine, he even goes on walks around town, although Alvin often prefers to ride on Mehmet’s head or shoulders. He has become somewhat of a local celebrity,y and it is clear that both are held with great affection in the community. Mehmet is known locally as 'Squirrel Man', yet he sees himself as Alvin’s carer rather than his owner.
