Does this refer to the same Jesus, peace be on him, of 2000 years ago, or to a Muslim from the followers of Muhammad, peace be on him, who would be granted the same function as Jesus had for the Jews? We explore the evidence! In-Depth Muslims await the coming of Isa son of Mary, peace be on him, believing that he will herald the victory of Islam over the forces of evil and darkness. Sunni and Shia Muslims believe that this Isa (as) will be the same Isa (as) as came to the Jews 2000 years ago. Ahmadi Muslims however, believe that Isa (as) according to the Quran and the prophetic statements is dead, and will not himself return. Rather, the prophecies of his return refer to another person bearing his name, just as Yahya (John the Baptist) (as) was declared by Jesus (as) to be the second coming of the prophet Elijah.
