If from up there, in the black silence, They could catch our voices, our cries, our hopes, They would hear laughter on a summer evening, And tears falling without being named. Bells ringing for another year, Candles blown out like a confused ritual, A people counting the turns of the sun, As if time could stay awake. What would they think of us, tell me, Hearing us live like this? Celebrating the simple fact of existing, And killing each other over ideas. Are we so insignificant, Lost somewhere between love and darkness? They would catch our anthems and our borders, Our gods brandished like stone weapons, Speeches full of words too grand, To justify the blood of the innocent. They would see children learning hate, Before even understanding their grief, Flags heavier than coffins, And promises dead under the suns. What would they think of us, tell me, Seeing us die for laws? Drawing lines on the land, And calling that reasons for war. Do we deserve to be human, Do we deserve a tomorrow? But maybe they would also hear A hand extended amidst the noise, An 'I love you' whispered to the night, A fragile forgiveness, almost buried. Maybe they would see in our mistakes Not just fear or anger, But a species that falls and rises, Still dreaming, despite the truce. So what would they really think of us, Hearing us love and part ways? Celebrating life even when it hurts, Still believing in something unstable. Maybe they would say, in their silence, ' They are lost... but full of hope.' If someone listens, out there in the dark, Let them know at least one thing tonight: We are broken, contradictory, But still alive... and that is our story.
