Part 1 of budget build full suspension ebike!! Aside from all the other things, one of the goals of this bike was trying to get a (relatively) powerful and fast ebike for as little cash as possible. I've build many ebikes in my day, but most of them are hardtail (aside from the larger enduro bikes I've made). The problem with full suspension mountain bikes is that they stick the rear shock in the triangle, which is just fine if you don't want to shove a ton of batteries there. Having a triangle pack and fitting it to the bike is the easiest thing, so what do you do when you want both? I've been challenging myself with harder builds like this just to see if I could do it and what it would take. You have to get more creative with how and where you put your components. I've been thinking about this for a while and I was already going to be buying a 3D printer, so I figured what if I use that as a solution? It will be cheaper than aluminum or steel and the hardest part will be just designing the parts. I wasn't sure about the durability, but that was one of the things I sought out to understand. In this episode we go over the platform, my ideas and finally putting them to practice with a 3D printed battery box that holds the battery in the correct position while still retaining some good aesthetics. This was my first attempt at 3D printing and lessons were learned, which was kind of the point. The Frame This is one of the cheapest (it may be THE cheapest) full suspension mountain bikes available. It's a Hyper "Shocker" sold at Walmart. Of course you're not going to get premium parts here, but what do you expect for such an incredible price tag? 2. The Motor One of the least expensive 1000W hub motor kits available, no frills, no display, just press the on button and go! 3. The Battery Again fitting with this build, one of the least expensive batteries I could find (that would also fit the frame) It's a 48V 14Ah Lithium Ion pack. 3.
