Re: Haddaway Production • The main console was a 40-channel Raindirk Symphony. The tape machine was an Otari MTR-90, and the studio sequencer was an Atari running Cubase. • The original production used more gear than mine. I should know—this is why my sound is as close as it is. I have had direct communication with the original production crew. • The original was the work of at least three producers, a couple of programmers, and engineers—not counting the mastering engineer, of course. All of them contributed to the sound in meaningful ways. Piecing it all together takes time. • All sounds were custom-programmed. There were at least three Akai S1000 samplers, an SE-1 Minimoog, a Waldorf Microwave, a Roland JD-990, a Roland D-550, and a Korg M1. The list is long and distinguished. I am only naming gear relevant to the sound that has been confirmed, leaving out forum-style speculation. • The sample CDs used were Zero-G Datafile, Zero-G Funky Elements, and Best Service Alpha Dance Vol. 1. The rest would be purely speculative. And now you ask: is it really that difficult to get exact information for every sound? The answer is: it’s impossible. Information is scattered among a group of people who remember things differently. I even had producers of other projects who worked at the same studio try to piece things together, as well as friends of the channel who either worked at the studio or frequented it for whatever reason. There is still a lot of mismatch, which, given the amount of time that has passed, is perfectly normal. Let’s not hope for easy answers; they do not exist—not when it comes to Haddaway's production. They definitely liked layering: composite bass sounds, leads, and heavily processed material. It reached the point where they could not reproduce the sounds from one track to another and ended up with something totally new instead. This is also normal. And this is where you would ask: how is it that people who do rebuilds end up getting so close? Rebuilds are work—a methodical, unforgiving, and time-consuming venture. And it never, ever ends. Welcome to my channel. If you want to get more details about my rebuild, the link to the deconstruction video is in the pinned comment below. ~Hedge
