From the testimony of Ruthy Wagner: I didn't think twice, allowed or not allowed, I left the house.

Ruthy Wagner moved to Nahal Oz with the Youth Program of the Scouts in 1974. She and her husband, Yossi, started their family there. Yossi had previously served as the head of the community emergency squad, and Ruthy, who worked as a welfare coordinator, was a member of the community emergency squad until recently. She also works as a social worker outside the kibbutz and is a well-known figure in the community. Just before the attack, she had undergone a round of chemotherapy treatment. Despite this, she remained remarkably active for more than 24 consecutive hours, thanks to the steroids she had taken. Throughout the day of the attack, she tirelessly tended to a wounded soldier and neighbor, organized food at the emergency headquarters, answered numerous phone calls, helped people pack for evacuation, and coordinated the treatment of members who had evacuated separately and were unable to get in touch. Even after helping to evacuate people, she continued to support the families in their new locations on Sunday afternoons.
