At the IAA Transportation 2024, Mercedes-Benz Trucks unveiled the *eActros 600*, a groundbreaking electric truck designed for long-distance haulage. This vehicle can travel up to 500 kilometers (about 311 miles) on a single charge, making it a strong contender in the heavy-duty transport sector's shift toward decarbonization. With its 600 kWh battery, the truck has the potential to cover over 1,000 kilometers (621 miles) per day by taking advantage of legally required breaks to recharge. During its seven-week European test run, the eActros 600 traveled over 15,000 kilometers through 22 countries, proving its reliability and efficiency under real-world conditions. This test demonstrated the truck’s ability to handle full 40-ton loads while charging exclusively at public charging stations. Additionally, the vehicle showcased energy-efficient technologies, such as regenerative braking, which enabled it to recover up to 25% of the power consumed during the journey. Production of the eActros 600 is set to begin in November 2024 at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Wörth, and customer deliveries are expected before the year's end. Mercedes-Benz Trucks is also promoting the development of charging infrastructure through its TruckCharge initiative to support the widespread adoption of electric trucks. At the event, Mercedes-Benz highlighted the importance of government and industry collaboration to develop charging networks necessary for long-haul electric transport to thrive. This vehicle even earned the International Truck of the Year 2025 award, showcasing its potential to transform the industry.
