An interview with Dr. William Jarnagin In this edition of SSAT's Mentor of the Month, Dr. Joshua Jolissaint of the SSAT Resident and Fellow Education Committee interviews William Jarnagin. Dr. William Jarnagin is the Chief of the Hepatopancreatobiliary Service at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and holds the Leslie Blumgart Chair in Surgery. The questions answered in this month's Mentor of the Month Video: Can you describe your training path in surgery up to this point, including the influence and experience of training under Dr. Leslie Blumgart? How has hepatobiliary training changed since you were a fellow at Memorial Sloan Kettering, and what is your philosophy for training the current generation of surgeons? One of your research and clinical interests is in cholangiocarcinoma – how did you build such a specialized practice and what is the next advancement that you foresee in management of this very rare disease? You have an extensive track record both in clinical trials and translational research – how did you become successful as an investigator for high impact surgical research while maintaining your clinical practice? What do you consider your most meaningful accomplishment in surgery?
