Update on Keisha: For those of you who have been following Keisha’s story: I met her back in August when she was experiencing homelessness. She was determined to work, and with your support, we were able to help her regain independence, secure a job, move into housing, and truly experience a way to a fresh start. I never want anyone I help to feel like they’re doing everything they can and still struggling to get by or that I’ve left them to figure things out alone. Recently, Keisha reached out to me with an update. She had to let go of her security job at the library because it no longer worked with her cleaning job schedule. Her cleaning job provides a more consistent schedule, 6 to 7 days a week, roughly 4 to 5 hours per shift. But losing the library job means she now struggles to cover even her basic necessities. She reached out asking for help with groceries. She can cover her rent, phone bill, and monthly bus pass, but there’s nothing left for the other essentials she needs. Thanks to your support, I was able to help her get some groceries immediately, but I would love to do more. Keisha’s phone has been malfunctioning she’s had for years, she can’t afford new clothes, and she needs to purchase a birth certificate ($50) so she can get a Florida ID, which she hopes will open more opportunities. I have received a few donations over the last couple of months that were specifically notated for Keisha. She did receive them, and she is deeply grateful to those of you who have helped her along her journey. Keisha has been working hard, and she hopes to file her taxes to try and get a refund, but she cannot afford the tax preparation fees.
