MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) The mayor's office has released all the documentation relating to a fender bender involving the city's interim Fire Chief Randy Smith. The accident has been cleared by Mayor Sandy Stimpson, but it still sparked a back and forth email debate between Councilman Fred Richardson and the city's Chief of Staff Colby Cooper. The mayor's spokesperson sent out an email Thursday sarcastically calling this the 'great crash of 2014.' On Monday, Smith crashed his city car into a power pole outside the central fire station after swerving to avoid hitting a sinkhole in the road. According to documents released by the mayor's office Smith took a drug and alcohol test following the accident and filed a report with the fire department. He did not call police, something Richardson said is against city policy. But the mayor said city employees are only required to call police if there are injuries. The email war began Wednesday when Richardson sent an emial to the media and the mayor requesting information on that crash. City officials however didn't like the way that email was worded saying Richardson made implications about the good name and character of a city employee. Richardson responded with another email saying he did nothing wrong, and had the right to investigate any city matter of his choosing. Local 15's Christian Jennings asked Richardson for an interview but it was denied because Richardson said he hadn't received the information he'd requested from the administration.
