1st Sunday of Advent – Theme: HOPE As we enter the holy season of Advent, the Church invites us to awaken our hearts with renewed hope. Today’s readings remind us that God’s promise is unfolding, and we are called to walk in His light with expectation and vigilance. First Reading: Isaiah 2:1–5 Isaiah paints a vision of a world transformed by God’s peace, where nations beat their swords into plowshares. It is a promise that light will overcome darkness. Second Reading: Romans 13:11–14 St. Paul urges us to “wake from sleep,” to cast off darkness, and to “put on the Lord Jesus Christ.” Advent is a spiritual wake-up call. Gospel: Matthew 24:36–44 Jesus reminds us to stay watchful and ready, for the Son of Man will come at an unexpected hour. Hope leads us to readiness—not in fear, but in trust. As we light the first Advent candle, may we embrace Hope, the light that breaks through every shadow. Let this time be one of renewal, anticipation, and joyful preparation for Christ’s coming.
