Sharefest S.T.E.A.M. Program at Avalon Continuation High School

This year, a grant from the Harbor Community Benefit Foundation allowed Sharefest to add a S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) component to the year-round Youth Development Academy program. Students learned about designing cranes, bridges, and ports, and worked in teams to create models each by applying S.T.E.A.M. skills. They had an opportunity to visit the Port of Los Angeles, and hear from guest speaker Chris Brown, a civil engineer at the Port of L.A. Throughout the program, students stepped up to learn and to lead, and gained skills that will help prepare them for future careers in technology and innovation.
