This video has a lot of views for some reason and the quality is so bad, I'm so sorry Twitch: / mouse Twitter: @Mowseler Items you will need: 1. Polyester you want to dye (Note: It is typically not possible to go from a dark to light color) 2. Stainless Steel pot (cannot be aluminum, do not use this to make food in afterward) 3. iDye Poly from Jacquard (You can purchase in Michaels or Joann's, but I got mine from: http://www.dharmatrading.com/dyes/idy...) 4. Stirring utensil 5. Gloves 6. Hydration *Note* This is for dyeing 100% Polyester. For blends, you will need: One cup of non iodized salt for cotton, linen and rayon ¹/³ cup of white vinegar for silks *Do not pour directly on the fabric* Steps: 1. Fill your stainless steel pot with enough water for the fabric to move freely You can dye up to 3 pounds of fabric with iDye Poly, but I would recommend cutting your patterns first, as it is easier to dye The less/more water you have, the darker/lighter the color of dye 2. Personal preference - allow the water to begin to simmer 3. Add the iDye poly packet. You can add more or less Dye depending on the shade you would like to achieve (More for darker, less for lighter) 4. Add the color intensifer This comes with the regular sized iDye Poly, but must be purchased additionally with the 1 pound iDye Poly 5. Add your fabric and agitate frequently in boiling water for 30 minutes to an hour In this video, I allowed the fabric to sit for roughly thirty minutes while boiling, due to the small amount of fabric I had. In retrospect, I probably could have gone with less time, to achieve the lighter shade I wanted, but the shade I got was pretty awesome as well. 6. Remove fabric and wash thoroughly to remove excess Dye 7. Add to a regular cycle in the washing machine and add a small amount of Detergent 8. Hang to dry **Warning**: Your fabric WILL appear much darker than the color you are shooting for because it is wet. Once it dries, you will see it clearly turn the color of the packet Don't get discouraged by the color of the dye powder. It's going to look funky, but will get you the color you want, assuming you do everything correctly Please subscribe for more tutorials!
