The LMS Jubilee Class is a famous class of steam locomotives that were operated by the London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) in the United Kingdom. The Jubilee Class locomotives were built between 1934 and 1936, and a total of 191 locomotives were produced. They were designed for express passenger services on the LMS network. The Jubilee Class locomotives were known for their distinctive streamlined appearance and powerful performance. They featured a 4-6-0 wheel arrangement, which means they had four leading wheels, six driving wheels, and no trailing wheels. They were capable of reaching speeds of up to 90 miles per hour (145 kilometers per hour). The LMS Jubilee Class locomotives were named after British overseas territories, colonies, and dependencies, as well as after cities, counties, and historical figures associated with the British Empire. Each locomotive carried a nameplate on the side of the smokebox, displaying its unique name. These locomotives operated on various routes across the LMS network, including express passenger services between major cities such as London, Birmingham, Manchester, and Glasgow. They were particularly famous for hauling the prestigious Royal Scot express train. After the nationalization of the British railways in 1948, the Jubilee Class locomotives were renumbered by British Railways (BR), the newly formed state-owned company. They continued to provide reliable service until the 1960s when they started being phased out by more modern diesel and electric locomotives. The last Jubilee Class locomotive, named "Bahamas," was withdrawn from service in August 1966. Today, a few LMS Jubilee Class locomotives have been preserved in operational condition and can be seen running on heritage railways in the United Kingdom, delighting enthusiasts and visitors with their elegant design and nostalgic steam power.
