Begin your journey towards becoming a Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) by joining our FREE Class at https://bit.ly/33dKHuB Pods in Kubernetes are the smallest, most fundamental deployable objects. A Pod denotes a single instance of a running process in a cluster. So, we can say that a Pod is: ➥ The most basic unit of Kubernetes ➥ The fundamental building block of Kubernetes ➥ Smallest execution unit in K8s ➤ 𝐌𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐫 𝐏𝐨𝐝𝐬 If an application needs several containers running on the same host, we can make deploy multiple containers in a single Pod. Even though it probably violates the "one process per container" principle they are best used for the following reasons: ➥When the containers must run on the same node. ➥When any two or more containers have the exact same life cycle. ➥ Simpler communication between containers through the network space and shared volumes. There are three different patterns of deploying a Multi-Container Pod: ➤ 𝐒𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐫 A pod spec that runs the main container and a helper container that does some work, but that is not necessarily required for the main container to work. ➤ 𝐀𝐦𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐝𝐨𝐫 It connects containers with the outside world. It is a proxy that allows other containers to connect to a port on localhost. ➤ 𝐀𝐝𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐫 This pattern is where the container will inspect the contents of the app's file, does some kind of restructuring and reformat it, and write the correctly formatted output to the location. Choosing the best pattern for your application is quite an important decision. Choosing a suitable option can lead to the best resource optimization.
