[re-release with some audio/volume fixes] It’s DOScember! Join me in playing around with SoftPC on NeXTSTEP on a black & white NeXTstation. I’m using this software for the first time, and without consulting a manual, so you can follow my unedited trials and tribulations in getting up and running and running some software and a game in a meaningful way. Several theories as to why it’s slow: I’m not using a turbo NeXTstation, and potentially there’s some hidden tweaks I could change to speed this up, or it may have performed better with the stock DOS 5.0 installation. Or I used a version (this was SoftPC 3.0 with Windows) that was too new for my hardware setup (maybe I’ll try this again with 2.0). Anyway, I’m pretty sure it wasn’t designed to run games, but I’d be grateful for your input into how and what for such a setup may have been used. Likewise, if you have any tips & tricks as to how to make this a more performant setup, let me know in the comments section! [Apologies for the low, and sometimes too high audio volume on the prior version - I've been experimenting with two different types of microphones, and haven't yet mastered the art of picking the right volume yet. This should sound much better! I think I'll also have to be more careful with what music and at what volume I'll include. Beginner's mistakes!]
