Did you know that several World War II-era Nazi warships were recently uncovered in the Danube River as a result of changing water levels and that similar discoveries have been made the world over? Some of the many interesting relics that we’ll be taking a look at include old Nazi warships, hunger stones, unexploded World War II bombs, ancient Buddhist statues, and a Spanish ghost village. The old Nazi warships were found along the Danube River, and they caused a scare for local officials once it was realized that there might be some unspent ammunition on board. In the Czech town of Decin, multiple hunger stones have been uncovered. For those that don’t know, hunger stones are memorials created as a result of great famine. Correlating with the Nazi warships in the Danube River, an unexploded World War II bomb was found by a group of fishermen along the Po River in Italy. The bomb was 1,000 pounds. A more heartwarming discovery was made in China when decreasing water levels along the Yangtze revealed three ancient Buddhist statues on a previously submerged island. The statues depict Buddhist monks that were intended to watch over the river. Another interesting anthropological discovery was made in Spain. In the 1990s, a Spanish town was flooded in order to create a reservoir. In recent years, decreasing water levels have made it so that this previously submerged town is now back above water. Tourists have come to enjoy visiting this Spanish ghost town. Besides all of these discoveries, there are also multiple discoveries that have been made just in Lake Mead.
